This summer, let your imagination run wild at the library! Our art-themed Summer Reading Program is packed with colorful adventures, creative challenges, and inspiration for all ages. 


Stop by during library hours to register early! 
Events begin in June...we are SO EXCITED!! 
*Last day to register to be eligible for grand prizes: Thursday, June 5, 2025.* 

ALL are welcome to participate!
We've got 7 age groups to explore your inner artist: Baby (0-2), Pre-K (3-4), Children (5-7), Young Readers (8-9), Tween (10-12), Teen (13-17), and Adult (18+).

PROGRAM INFORMATION

Get ready for a summer full of fun at Tellico Plains Public Library!

We’re excited to officially welcome you to our 2025 Summer Reading Program, and we can’t wait to spend the season exploring adventure, imagination, and creativity with you. This year’s theme is "Color Our World"—and together, we’re going to create a vibrant summer full of books, crafts, and unforgettable memories.

Here’s a sneak peek of what’s in store:
  • Events with special guests
  • Hands-on crafts and exciting surprises
  • Engaging reading activities for all ages
  • A backyard full of stories, laughter, and fun 

All events will be in the library’s backyard. In case of rain, events will move to the Tellico Plains Community Center or be rescheduled. We’ll post updates on our Facebook page and website.

All About Score Cards
This year, we’re ONLY using Score Cards to track your reading adventures, and here’s how they work:
  • Bring your Score Card to every event, even if it’s not completed. Please turn in at the Score Card table.
  • If you miss an event, please place your Score Card in an envelope and drop it in the library’s book drop or turn it in at the front desk.
  • All Score Cards must be turned in by the end of the event on Monday, June 16, 2025.

Score Cards are your reading passport! Use them to:
  • Track your progress
  • Complete missions
  • Most importantly—have fun!

Young Readers (8 - 9 yo):
  • 10 Books (NO picture books; Easy Readers acceptable)
  • 2 Summer Reading Events (excludes Registration & Awards)

Tweens (10 – 12 yo):
  • 3 Books (NO picture books; minimum 75 pages each)*
  • 2 Summer Reading Events (excludes Registration & Awards)

Teen  (13 - 17 yo):
  • 2 Books (NO picture books; minimum 150 pages each)*
  • 2 Summer Reading Events (excludes Registration & Awards)
  • 10 Missions

Adults (18+):
  • 2 Books (NO picture books; minimum 200 pages each)*
  • 2 Summer Reading Events (excludes Registration & Awards)
  • 10 Missions

*Books with minimum page requirements will be counted if no more than 30 pages off from meeting the minimum page requirements. For example, a book with 187 pages will be accepted for a Teen book. When logging books for Tween, Teen, and/or Adults, please put the number of pages of the book next to the book title.

MISSIONS

Bright Minds, Bold BOOKS: Read 10 Books (Baby, Pre-K, Children, Young Readers), 3 Books with minimum page requirements (Tween), or 2 Books with minimum page requirements (Teen & Adult) to meet minimum requirements for Grand Prizes. You may record books read beginning on May 27, 2025. Only participants in Baby, Pre-K & Children Age Groups can count picture books toward their goal. The more books you read, the more points you get! Happy Reading!!    

Imagination Station EVENTS: Attend Any 2 Summer Reading Program events (excludes Registration & Awards - see schedule) at the library to meet minimum requirements for Grand Prizes. Secret codes are provided at each qualifying Summer Reading Program event. 

Artful Adventures MISSIONS: Fun activities… Complete 10 Missions & the Great Color Quest Scavenger Hunt Mission to meet minimum requirements for Grand Prizes.
  • Journey Through the Pages READING MISSIONS:
    • Art Book: Read a book that discusses art (drawing, painting, quilting, music, etc.)
    • World Book: Read a book about another country, culture, or language. 
    • Local Book: Read a Book by a local author or a book about local history.
    • Book of a Specific Color: Read a book that is your favorite color. 
    • Road Trip with an Audiobook: Listen to an audiobook while in the car or at home. 
  • Picture This! PICTURE MISSIONS:
    • Story Time with Your Pet: Take & show a photo of you reading with your pet.
    • Family/Friend Story Time: Take & show a photo of you reading with family/friend.
    • Story Time Outside: Take & show a photo of you reading outside.
    • Explore Local: Take & show a photo of you visiting local businesses.
    • Learn about the Local History: Take & show a photo of you visiting the Charles Hall Museum.
    • Local Information: Take & show a photo of you visiting the Visitor’s Center.
  • Bookshelf Explorers LIBRARY MISSIONS:
    • Become a TPPL Library Card Holder: Register for your own TPPL library card.
    • Use TEL/TEL4U: Tell us what resource interested you or that you use the most on TEL (tntel.info) or TEL4U (tel4u.org).
    • Join Friends of the Tellico Plains Public Library: Help make Programs possible at your library.
    • Donate from the Library’s Wishlists (Amazon, Wal-Mart, or see library’s website).
    • Attend a Library Program: Attend at least 1 other library program (beginning May 27, 2025) other than a Summer Reading Program event (see June calendar).
    • Use TN R.E.A.D.S./Libby: Download an ebook/audiobook using TN R.E.A.D.S./Libby.
    • Sign-up for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library (https://imaginationlibrary.com/check-availability/).
  • Once Upon a Brushstroke STORY MISSIONS:
    • Tell Us Something…:Tell us something you recently learned that blew your mind. 
    • You Approved: Recommend a book, series, genre, or author for us to add to our library. 
    • Learn about Another Culture: Learn about another culture and tell us what you learned.
    • Learn Another Language: Learn to say hello in another language and tell us.

    • American Sign Language (ASL): Learn how to sign the alphabet using sign language.

  • The Ink-credible ART MISSIONS:
    • Shadow Drawing: Trace the shadow of an object on your paper.
    • Outdoor Craft: Make a birdfeeder or suncatcher. Show a photo to a librarian of what you made.
    • Inspiration Board: Create your own inspiration board. 
    • Dream Home Design: Design your dream home. 
    • Finger Paint Fun: Make art with fingerpaint. 
    • Book Art: Make art using books. 
    • Flowers & Book Stacks: Make a tablescape using flowers and books. 
    • Be A Chef/Baker: Prepare a meal or make a dessert. 
    • Craft: Make a craft. 
    • Paint: Paint your own masterpiece, paint a rock, or make splatter paint. 
    • Food Art: Make art using food. 
    • Sculpt: Make art using Play-Doh or clay.

    • STEAM: Do a STEAM activity, including art, legos, etc. 
    • Reimagine Stories: If you could change any story or the ending to any book you’ve read, what would it be changed to? 
    • Reimagine Book Covers: If you could change any book cover of a book you read, what would it look like? Design it. 
    • Your Song: Write a song. 
    • Your Story: Write a short story.
    • Fort Imagination: Make a fort out of pillows and blankets to read in. 
    • Instrument: Learn to play a new instrument. 
    • Favorite Instrument: Tell us about your favorite instrument. 
    • Book Cover: Create your own book cover for your book.
    • Album Cover: Create your own album cover for your musical album. 
    • Videography: Make your own play or movie. 
    • Write Your Own Script: Write your own script for a play, movie, or show. 
    • Book Color Mixing: Choose two colors from your favorite book, follow the instructions on each square, choose a favorite from the new 7 colors, and look for a book cover that matches. 
    • Favorite Color Hunt: Find 3 things that are your favorite color and tell us about them. 
    • Dance: Learn a dance.
    • Choreography: Create your own dance. 
    • Book to Movie/Show: Read a book then watch the movie/show and compare. Which is better? Do you see the similarities and differences?
    • Photography: Learn a photography skill and put it to use. 
    • Pictures: Take a photo.
    • Use Your Imagination: Use your imagination and have some fun. 
    • Flashlight Shadows: Show a photo of you making shadows using a flashlight.
    • New Recipes: Share a new or favorite recipe or one you would like to try from another culture.
    • Writing Prompts: Write a short story using writing prompts. (Ask a librarian about this mission!)
  • Challenge the Limits of Your Imagination GAME MISSIONS:
    • Board Games: Play a fun, family-friendly board game.
    • Card Games: Play a fun, family-friendly card game. 
    • Trivia: Play a game of trivia.
    • Maze: Create your own maze. 
    • Gamemaker: Make your own game. 
    • Book Genre Bingo: Read different genres to get five in a row…BINGO! (Ask a librarian about this mission!)
    • Summer Art Bingo: Complete all nine squares of fun…BINGO! (Ask a librarian about this mission!)
    • Photo Scavenger Hunt: Find a book to complete each square of this scavenger hunt. (Ask a librarian about this mission!) ***THIS IS NOT THE REQUIRED SCAVENGER HUNT…THIS IS A DIFFERENT MISSION.***
    • Puzzle: Complete a puzzle, crossword puzzle, or word search. (Ask a librarian about this mission!)
    • Puzzle maker: Make your own puzzle, crossword puzzle, word search. (Ask a librarian about this mission!)
  • RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS MISSION: Choose from a list provided to perform Random Acts of Kindness and inspire others. *Must complete at least 7 for credit. 
  • Hue Knew? FUN FACTS MISSION: Tell us a fun fact about each of the following: Local, State, USA, World. *Must complete all 4 for credit. 
  • Colorful Connections SHARE THE MISSION (All): Let’s work together. Complete a list of activities with family/friends. *Must complete at least 4 for credit.
  • LITTLE EXPLORERS MISSION (Baby & Pre-K ONLY): Get your little ones to expand their horizons. *Must complete at least 5 for credit.
  • ALPHABET WALK MISSION (Children & Young Readers ONLY): Go for a walk and look for letters of the alphabet all around you. *Must complete at least 5 for credit.
  • READING AROUND MISSION (Tween & Teen ONLY): Show us all the fun and exciting places you read choosing from a list. *Must complete at least 5 for credit.
  • MODERN WONDERS MISSION (Adult ONLY): Do you know where the 7 modern wonders of the world are? Choose from a list and enter the country.  *Must complete at least 4 for credit.

The Great Color Quest SCAVENGER HUNT MISSION: Complete to meet minimum requirements for Grand Prizes. We have placed small posters in the windows of the community businesses around Tellico Plains. You will need to record the COLOR or PAINTING NAME or ARTIST’S NAME to receive points. Have Fun and Happy Exploring! 
  • *Must complete at least 12 out of the approximately 33 Scavenger Hunt clues for credit.
