We have some exciting news to share with you from our library board!
"2020 Star Library Award Bestowed to Tellico Plains Library!
The December 2020 issue of Library Journal lists Tellico Plains Library as a 2020 Star Library! Tellico Plains Library was one of three Tennessee libraries to receive this award under the 13th edition of Library Journal’s Index of Public Library Service. The LJ Index rates U.S. public libraries according to their expenditure range in the areas of circulation visits per capita and program attendance per Capita.
The Tellico Plains Library and the May Justus Memorial Library in Monteagle, TN were in the expenditure range of $10,000-$49,000. Benton County Library in Camben, TN fell in the expenditure range of $200K-$399.9K.
The Library Journal designated only 262 Star Libraries of the 5,608 U.S. Public libraries that qualified to be rated in the LJ Index. The libraries submitted the fiscal year statistics to their state library system for submission to the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Congratulations to the staff, board, and volunteers of the Tellico Plains Library for being a U.S., Tennessee, and Tellico Plains “Star!”
The Tellico Plains Library Learning Center Building Fund program is in full swing! The schematic design and design development documents have been paid for and received. To date, supporters pledged or donated $191,000 to this exciting project. An additional $80,000 must be raised before bidding and construction can begin. To contribute please make your check payable to the Tellico Plains Friends of the Library.
