Brenda Bertino is our director. Before retiring to Tellico Plains she was a school library director, a special education teacher, a computer teacher and is a published author. Her love of helping her community has brought her out of retirement. Brenda loves to read, especially Children and Young Adult books. During her years in the schools she would read 365+ books a year so she could hand just the right book to any student. In the past few years she has studied Genealogy and has traced her husband's family back to the Mayflower descendants. She enjoys solving the mystery of finding ancestors and learning their story. In her spare time she loves crafting, hiking in the mountains, and playing with her dog.
Nicole is one our our assistant librarians. A native of France, Nicole has been in the United States for many years now and calls Tellico Plains her home. She is head of our Inter Library Loan program and, though we have recently gone through some MAJOR changes in this program, she has picked it up and "ran with it"! We are grateful for her participation in this program, as it allows us to offer books from other libraries to our patrons. She shares in the responsibility of cataloging our books, audiobooks, CDs and DVDs and helps sort through the donated materials we receive each week.
Shirley is another assistant librarian. She has brought her love of books and reading to our library, in the form of her enthusiasm to see that Tellico Library has a wealth of good books. She can tell us, off the top of her head, if we have the book or not, and knows what many of our patrons like to read! When the staff order books, they depend on Shirley to help provide lists based on our readers' perferences. Once we receive these books, she helps to catalog them. Shirley runs reports, helps with ILL, supervises her two volunteers, and always offers a smile, a kind word and at times a laugh or two!
Hannah is our newest assistant librarian. She is from England, near Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare's hometown! She comes to us with a vast knowledge of books, computers, and of many different subjects. She has done a lot of traveling. In fact, she met her husband, Woody, a Tellico native, in New Zealand! Along with checking books in and out, shelving the books, she also catalogs many of the new and used books that come in daily.
We NEED enthusiastic, dependable people who love books and organization to volunteer with us at the Tellico Plains Public Library!
If you could give us a few hours every week, come by at a time during the week that is convenient for you, we would appreciate your "helping hands"!
We can use your help if you are 16 years old or older. We can make reasonable accommodations for people with mobility impairments -- anyone who wishes to help is welcome! By volunteering you can be gaining valuable experience working with people and helping out. If you do a good job, we can provide you with a good reference for your resume.
See you at the library!
