It’s officially time for our 2024 Summer Reading Program!

We are SO excited to embark on a Fun-Filled Adventure and the “Adventure Begins At Your Library”!

SCHEDULE

All events will be outside in the library’s backyard.
If the weather is icky, we will move the event to the Tellico Plains Community Center
or try our best to reschedule the event.

Stop by the library during library hours to register beginning Monday, June 3, 2024
and start your missions and Summer Reading early before events start!!
Registration goodies will be given at Event 1 on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 6 PM.

We have events twice a week with special guests, crafts, weekly surprises, and more!

**Children must be accompanied by an adult.**

Events are in our backyard at 6 PM on the following dates:

Don't forget to bring your Passports, Score Cards (even if not completed to update your progress), Brag Tags (so you can add to it each week), and book totes to each event.
These will be given out at the first event to registered participants.

*All Score Cards and READsquared MUST be submitted by
Friday, June 21, 2024 at 5 PM.*

All events will be outside in our backyard. If the weather is icky, we will try our best to reschedule the event and will post updates on our Facebook and website and will also send out an email.

Minimum Requirements

*Requirements to be entered into the grand prize drawings:

*Books with minimum page requirements will be counted if no more than 30 pages off from meeting the minimum page requirements. For example, a book with 187 pages will be accepted for a Teen book.
When logging books for Tween, Teen, and/or Adults, please put the number of pages of the book next to the book title.

***Only Participants in Baby, Pre-K, & Children Age Groups can count picture books toward their goal.***

***If using Score Cards: Please turn in Score Cards at each event -- even if not completed to update progress.
If you miss an event, please put the Score Cards in an envelope and drop them in the book drop box
or turn them in at the library.

All Score Cards and READsquared MUST be submitted by
Friday, June 21, 2024 at 5 PM.

Travel the World & Beyond BOOKS: Read 10 Books (Baby, Pre-K & Children), 3 Books with minimum page requirements (Tween), or 2 Books with minimum page requirements (Teen & Adult) to meet minimum requirements for Grand Prizes. You may record books read beginning on June 3, 2024. Only participants in Baby, Pre-K & Children Age Groups can count picture books toward their goal. The more books you read, the more points you get! Happy Reading!!

Expedition Library EVENTS: Attend Any 2 Summer Reading Program events (excludes Registration & Awards - see schedule) at the library to meet minimum requirements for Grand Prizes. Secret codes are provided at each qualifying Summer Reading Program event and can be entered by clicking “ENTER CODE” on READsquared.

Happy Camper MISSIONS: Fun activities… Complete 5 Missions & the Scavenger Hunt Mission to meet minimum requirements for Grand Prizes.

READING MISSIONS:
- Adventure Book: Read a Book about adventure, travel, languages, or cultures
- Local Book: Read a Book by a local author or a book about local history
- Road Trip with an Audiobook: Listen to an audiobook while in the car or at home.
PICTURE MISSIONS:
- Story Time with Your Pet: Take & show a photo of you reading with your pet
- Family/Friend Story Time: Take & show a photo of you reading with family/friend
- Story Time Outside: Take & show a photo of you reading outside
- Outdoor Craft: Make a birdfeeder or suncatcher. Take & show a photo of what you made
- Gone Fishing: Take & show a photo of you safely fishing
- Explore Local: Take & show a photo of you visiting local businesses
- Learn about the Local History: Take & show a photo of you visiting the Charles Hall Museum
- Local Information: Take & show a photo of you visiting the Visitor Center
- Knot Tying: Take & show a photo of you tying a knot
- Flashlight Shadows: Take & show a photo of you making shadows using a flashlight
- Outdoor Activity: Take & show a photo of you enjoying a SAFE outdoor activity
- You Sent Mail: Take & show a photo of you writing a letter/postcard to someone.
LIBRARY MISSIONS:
- Become a TPPL Library Card Holder: Register for your own TPPL library card
- Use TEL/TEL4U: Tell us what resource interested you or that you use the most on TEL (tntel.info) or TEL4U (tel4u.org)
- Join Friends of the Tellico Plains Public Library: Help make Programs possible at your library
- Donate from the Library’s Wishlists (Amazon, Wal-Mart, or see library’s website)
- Attend a Library Program: Attend at least 1 other library program other than a Summer Reading Program event
- Use TN R.E.A.D.S./Libby: Download an ebook/audiobook using TN R.E.A.D.S./Libby
- Sign-up for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library (https://imaginationlibrary.com/check-availability/)
- Sign-up for Smokey Bear’s Reading Challenge on READsquared
STORY MISSIONS:
- Learn how to Prevent Wildfires & about Campfire Safety: Visit https://smokeybear.com/ and tell us what you learned.
- Tell Us Something…:Tell us something you recently learned that blew your mind.
- You Approved: Recommend a book, series, or author for us to add to our library.
- Learn about another Culture: Learn about another culture and tell us what you learned.
- Learn another Language: Learn to say hello in another language and tell us.
- Your Adventure: Tell us about an adventure you have been on.
- Outdoor Walk: Safely go on a walk outside and tell us about it and what you saw.
- Adventure Bucket List: What is on your bucket list? Where would you like to go & what adventure would you like to go on?
- Campfire Tales/Songs: Tell us your favorite story to tell or song to sing at the campfire.
- Plan the Ultimate Adventure: Plan the ultimate adventure (vacation, roadtrip, etc.).
- Your Interests: What would you like to see our library add (resources, programs, classes)?
- Bird Watching: Safely go bird watching and tell us what birds you saw.
- New Recipes: Share a new or favorite recipe or one you would like to try from another culture.
- Adventure Playlist: Tell us what would be on your playlist for a fun adventure.
RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS MISSION: Choose from a list provided to perform Random Acts of Kindness and inspire others.*Must complete at least 7 for credit.
FUN FACTS MISSION: Tell us a fun fact about each of the following: Local, State, USA, World. *Must complete all 4 for credit.
SHARE THE MISSION (All): Let’s work together. Complete a list of activities with family/friends. *Must complete at least 4 for credit.

LITTLE EXPLORERS MISSION (Baby & Pre-K ONLY): Get your little ones to expand their horizons. *Must complete at least 5 for credit.

ALPHABET WALK MISSION (Children ONLY): Go for a walk and look for letters of the alphabet all around you. *Must complete at least 5 for credit.

READING AROUND MISSION (Tween & Teen ONLY): Show us all the fun and exciting places you read choosing from a list. *Must complete at least 5 for credit.

MODERN WONDERS MISSION (Adult ONLY): Do you know where the 7 modern wonders of the world are? Choose from a list and enter the country. *Must complete at least 4 for credit.

Explore our Community SCAVENGER HUNT MISSION: Complete to meet minimum requirements for Grand Prizes. We have placed small posters in the windows of the community businesses around Tellico Plains. You will need to record the BOOK TITLE & BOOK AUTHOR or the LOCAL ADVENTURE & ACTIVITY or the QUOTE to receive points. Have Fun and Happy Exploring!
*Must complete at least 14 out of the approximately 32 of the Scavenger Hunt for credit.

readsquared

Like previous years, we will be using READsquared (website/app) to track everyone’s progress.

If you don’t have access to the internet, no worries! You can still participate!
We will have a computer in our library designated for participants to log their progress on READsquared.
The specified computer will be available during library’s open hours.

In addition, we will also have Score Cards that can be completed, and we ask that you please turn in Score Cards at each event (even if not completed to update progress) at the READsquared booth.

If you miss an event, please put the Score Cards in an envelope and drop them in the book drop box or turn them in at the library.
